The SiSTARhood Retreat is a transformative weekend experience designed for young women to develop and strengthen the foundation of healthy friendships, positive peer relationships, and self-worth. This retreat provides a safe, immersive environment where participants can navigate the complexities of friendships, peer pressure, bullying, and the social stigmas often portrayed in media. Through interactive workshops, sisterhood circles, and empowerment sessions, young women will leave with renewed confidence, stronger emotional intelligence, and lifelong connections.

The Need: Breaking the Cycle of Negative Influences & Betrayal

Young women—especially young women of color—are often portrayed through media as competitive, aggressive, or untrustworthy in friendships. From reality TV to social media, negative stereotypes reinforce toxic narratives of betrayal, “mean girl” culture, and social exclusion. Research shows that:

  • 56% of teenage girls say they feel pressure to look or act a certain way due to social media.
  • 1 in 3 girls experiences relational aggression, including gossip, exclusion, and emotional bullying, impacting their self-esteem and mental health.
  • Black and Brown girls are disproportionately labeled as “aggressive” or “problematic” in school settings, discouraging them from speaking up and forming positive peer relationships.

By addressing these issues head-on, the SiSTARhood Retreat redefines friendship as a source of empowerment, not competition.
