Reinventing Yourself

There comes a time in every woman’s life when she has to decide: Will I let life’s challenges break me, or will I allow them to build me? For many of us, reinvention isn’t a choice, it is survival. It is answering the call to transform, to evolve, and to walk into a new season of purpose.

But let’s be real: Reinventing yourself isn’t glamorous. It’s painful. It’s lonely. It’s full of nights spent praying, fasting, and wondering if you have the strength to keep going. But through every tear, through every sacrifice, through every moment of self-doubt, there is an unshakable truth: YOU were chosen for such a time as this.

The Storm That Changed Everything

Grief has a way of reshaping everything we once knew—our identity, our future, our faith. It doesn’t just introduce us to loss; it introduces us to the true nature of those we once trusted. It isolates, suffocates, and breaks us in ways we never imagined possible. And yet, for women like me: mothers, professionals, leaders, grief doesn’t come with the luxury of stopping life. The world keeps moving, responsibilities remain, and we are left gasping for air, desperately trying to keep it all together.

It started in 2023, when my mother had a stroke. As I was still reeling from that pain, I lost two people I loved to gun violence, shaking the very foundation of my world. I barely had time to process one blow before the next one landed. And just when I thought I couldn’t take any more heartbreak, 2024 arrived with more devastation. My business partner, someone I had built with, dreamed with, was suddenly jailed over accusations of revenge. It was a scandal that shook our business and threatened everything we had worked for. And then, the unthinkable happened. My fraternal brother, a police officer who was also an uncle to my children, was killed in the line of duty. Another gun violence tragedy. Another phone call that shattered my heart. Another moment of realizing that grief wasn’t done with me yet.

I remember standing in my kitchen, staring blankly at the floor, unable to move. Numb. Overwhelmed. Completely shattered.

I was suddenly alone. Navigating the weight of motherhood, entrepreneurship, community leadership, and school, all while grief threatened to swallow me whole. I wanted to quit. I wanted to let it all go, crawl into a corner, and just disappear. But God wouldn’t allow it.

I heard Him whisper, “You have a responsibility. You cannot quit.”

I am a woman of faith, but this? This was a storm so violent that it tested every ounce of trust I had in God.

Choosing Strength in the Midst of Weakness

I had a choice to make: Allow the pain to paralyze me or fight my way through.

I CHOSE to fight.

Instead of letting grief consume me, I turned to what I knew best: prayer and fasting. Not just once. Not just in the moments I felt strong enough. Every single day.

I poured out my fears, my doubts, my exhaustion at God’s feet. I screamed. I cried. I prayed. I fasted. And in return, He gave me something I didn’t think I had left, "STRENGTH".

I pushed through not because I had to, but because I chose to. Because my children were watching. Because the young women in my community needed to see what resilience looked like. Because this journey was never just about me. It was about God’s plan. About showing others that no matter how devastating life gets, you can reinvent yourself.

I wasn’t just surviving. I was BECOMING.

Knowing Your Worth & Moving in Silence

Grief changes you, but so does maturity. I learned that not everyone deserves access to your pain. Not everyone will understand your healing process. Some will expect you to fail. Others will secretly hope you do. That’s why moving in silence became my greatest weapon.

I didn’t need to announce my next move. I just made it.

I stopped explaining myself. I stopped waiting for people to validate my pain or my progress. I built. I healed. I grew in the shadows. All Thanks to God. And when the time was right, He allowed me to emerge stronger, wiser, and completely unstoppable.
